Bayern Munich has announced that Thomas Müller will depart from the club at the end of this season.

“FC Bayern and Thomas Müller jointly decided to conclude this remarkable journey this summer, after 25 years and 33 trophies,” the club stated.

Müller (35) is set to play his final matches for Bayern at the Club World Cup, scheduled to take place from June 15 to July 13 in the United States. The club also mentioned that a farewell match will be arranged to honor the German striker.

As the record holder for appearances at Bayern, Müller joined the club’s youth academy in 2000, made his first-team debut in August 2008, and has since participated in 743 matches, netting 247 goals and assisting 273 times.

“There will never be another like him. This decision was incredibly tough. It was made with the future of the team in mind, and it’s crucial that we can look each other in the eye afterward, which we can here,” said Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund, according to the club’s website.

Max Eberl, a board member for sports, emphasized that the team is focused on future plans, while CEO Jan-Christian Dresen noted that finding a fair and common resolution was the priority.

Müller has achieved 12 Bundesliga titles with Bayern, alongside eight German Super Cup titles, six German Cup titles, and has won the Champions League, Club World Cup, and European Super Cup twice each.

The German striker expressed immense gratitude for his journey with the club, stating he wishes to bid farewell by winning the Bundesliga title this season as well.

“Today is not just an ordinary day for me. My 25 years as a Bayern player will come to a close this summer. This journey has been extraordinary, filled with unique experiences, great encounters, and unforgettable victories. I am deeply thankful to have crafted this career with my beloved club. I will always hold a special bond with Bayern and our amazing fans,” Müller reflected.

“What I hope for my farewell is clear: titles to celebrate together and moments to remember for a long time. We will give our best in the coming weeks to reclaim the championship title for Munich. Let’s achieve this together,” added the German footballer.

During his time at Bayern, Müller was named to the Bundesliga’s ideal team three times and was part of the Champions League’s ideal team in the 2019/20 season. He also received the accolade of Munich’s best player for the 2021/22 season.
