Deputy Prime Minister Bečić Offers Congratulations on Europe Day
To the people of Montenegro, I offer my warmest congratulations on this significant occasion of 9 May – Victory over Fascism Day and Europe Day. This date stands as a testament to both the heroic resistance of our past and the shared vision for a united European future.
On this day, we take pride in honoring the sacrifices of our forebears, who initiated the 13 July Uprising in 1941. They were among the first in occupied Europe to stand against fascism. Their bravery, resilience, and steadfast belief in freedom have firmly anchored Montenegro within the legacy of the triumph over totalitarianism, a cornerstone of our identity.
Simultaneously, we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which established the groundwork for the modern European Union – a symbol of peace, unity, and collective advancement. The values upon which today’s EU is built resonate deeply within Montenegro’s social and political framework: freedom, democracy, solidarity, the rule of law, and respect for human dignity.
With remarkable progress in the accession negotiations and a positive IBAR, Montenegro reaffirms its strategic and vital commitment to the European path. We are not delineating borders – we are constructing bridges, both within our nation and with our European allies, determined to implement reforms diligently and responsibly.
I am confident that we will continue to be a dependable partner and a leader in the region’s European integration, guided by a deep respect for our history and a commitment to future generations.
In light of this, I once again extend my heartfelt congratulations to all citizens on this 9 May – Victory over Fascism Day and Europe Day!
