Demonstrating remarkable potential with victories in all youth competitions, a standout performance at last year’s senior championships in Zadar, and a silver medal at the Premier League in Paris, Nemanja Mikulić has now showcased his incredible skill at the European Championship in Yerevan.
The Montenegrin national team and KK Bijela weightlifter are set to compete for gold in the 75 kg category on Saturday.
Another remarkable achievement was secured by Vladimir Mijač, who will contend for bronze in individual kata during Saturday’s events, confirming that he ranks among the world’s best and that Montenegrin karate is reaching new heights.
Mikulić has already made history for Montenegrin sports, with only his match against Russian competitor Ernest Skaraputdinov, who fights under the EKF flag, remaining to determine the color of his medal.
In the initial round, our karateka overcame Nick Sarer from Switzerland with a score of 6:0, followed by a 4:2 victory against August von Platen Hellermund from Denmark. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Italian Daniele Viv 3:2, and finally won against Betim Maliqi from Kosovo with a narrow 1:0 score in the finals.
Mijač also excelled in his kata performances, securing wins against Anthony Wu from Sweden and Marios Markesinios from Greece. However, he faced a setback in the quarterfinals against Enes Ozdemur from Turkey, who advanced to the finals, forcing Mijač into the repechage.
In the repechage, Mijač triumphed over Senaid Veladžić from Bosnia and Herzegovina, and he will now face Swiss contender Juki Udžihara for the bronze medal.
Among the Montenegrin athletes, Nemanja Jovović performed well, reaching the quarterfinals in the heavy category.
Other competitors, including Mila Mraković, Milena Jovanović, Nikola Malović, Nađa Boričić, and Jovana Stojanović, were unable to secure high rankings.
In addition to the administrative achievements of KSCG president Predrag Perković and the upcoming hosting of the 2028 European Championship, our team aims to further enhance its performance in the coming days. The quality is undoubtedly present.
