Can Buducnost Achieve a Miracle Against Herceg Novi?
Following a break after the playoff semi-finals, due to several members of the Buducnost team participating in the historic U16 campaign for the Montenegrin national team at the European Championship, the EPCG Women’s Volleyball Super League season is now gearing up for its final stretch.
The championship battle for Montenegro will kick off this evening at 19:00 in the Kotor Gymnasium (the SC “Igalo” hall is currently occupied), where Herceg Novi will host the opening match of the series against Buducnost.
Throughout the season, Herceg Novi has demonstrated dominance, with Buducnost being the sole team to have defeated the reigning champions in over two years. During this time, they have lost only one set, which was against Luka Bar. In their last matchup in February during the regular season, Herceg Novi suffered a surprising defeat at the hands of Buducnost, losing 3:2 at the Secondary Medical School sports hall.
The victory over Luka Bar marked a significant milestone for the young Buducnost team, leading them to their first final in the club’s recent history. Across three thrilling matches—with the last two concluding in turnarounds and tie-breaks—the Podgorica team displayed immense talent, proving their capability against more seasoned opponents.
Herceg Novi convincingly dominated their series against city rivals Albatros, not allowing them more than 20 points in any of the six sets, and enters the finals as the favorite, defending their title for the second consecutive year.
Since the start of the season, Herceg Novi has already clinched two trophies—the inaugural Montenegrin Super Cup and the Montenegrin Cup, having defeated Luka Bar in both encounters.
The second match is scheduled for May 5th in Podgorica, while the third final showdown will take place on May 8th at SC “Igalo”. The champion of Montenegro will be the team that secures three victories in total.
