Two Derbies Kick Off the Final Round of the 1st CFL
Following three rounds in the MeridianBet First Montenegrin Football League and with 27 rounds completed, the fourth round kicks off today.
Today’s standout match is in Petrovac, where the second-placed team faces off against the leader—Petrovac takes on Budućnost. Currently, Budućnost sits firmly at the top, holding a 14-point advantage over Petrovac, making them the clear favorites for the championship. A victory today would solidify their position even further.
– Our aim is definitely to secure the win; this team isn’t one to play it safe. I’m hopeful we won’t experience another crisis like we did against Dečić in the first half, as that halted our momentum. Nonetheless, we’re aware of the challenge posed by our opponents – stated Budućnost’s coach, Ivan Brnović.
Brnović acknowledges the tough conditions his team will face on the field.
– The playing surface in Petrovac presents additional challenges. Such conditions can influence the game and its quality. We’re expecting a packed stadium, a vibrant atmosphere—everything that could impact our quest for first place. However, with eight rounds remaining, it’s far from over, though we may gain some insights into future outcomes.
Petrovac is consistently holding onto second place, and it seems likely they will maintain this standing until the season concludes.
– I commend them for what they’ve accomplished thus far in the league. Regardless of how the season progresses, they’ve left a significant mark with their dependable performance. They may lack standout stars, but their true strength lies in their teamwork. They boast a solid defense, having conceded only 25 goals over 27 matches—an impressive statistic of under one goal per game. They play to their strengths, show tactical discipline, and are exceptionally well-prepared physically. Their lines are compact, with a competent defense supported by competitive midfielders and forwards who contribute defensively—Brnović elaborated.
This season, Budućnost has triumphed over Petrovac in three encounters.
– It’s a high-stakes match for both sides. I anticipate a fierce competition and a spirit of fair play, demonstrating our advancement toward the European stage. Qualifying for Europe should not be viewed as coincidence, but rather a result of a solid season – stated Budućnost’s coach.
Meanwhile, the battle for positions three through six remains tight, with Dečić AdmiralBet, Sutjeska, and Mornar each at 37 points, while Bokelj SBBet is close behind with 36.
The defending champions will host Nikšić’s team in Tuzi, after Nikšić dropped their previous match against Jedinstvo-France, ending a five-game unbeaten streak.
