“Ziceri and Slow Start to the Second Half Hurt Us, But I’m Confident We’ll Perform Better Against Slovenia”
Montenegrin handball players faced a tough defeat against Germany (28:24) in the second round of the Olympic qualifications. Despite losing by ten points, they still hold the key to qualifying for Paris.
“I believe that our numerous missed shots in the first half, along with a sluggish start in the second half, cost us the match,” said Matea Pletikosić after the game in Ulm.
Even the stellar performance of our middle back, who scored nine out of nine, was not enough to secure a win for the “lionesses.”
“Throughout the match, we fought back, and I want to commend my teammates for their perseverance. I am confident we will improve tomorrow… I am proud that we gave it our all and did not back down,” Matea told RTCG.
The opportunity to qualify for Paris hinges on tomorrow’s match against Slovenia—winning this match secures their place in the Olympic Games.
“We understand that Slovenia is preparing for us, but we remain focused on our goal. It shouldn’t be a significant hurdle; we demonstrated in this game that we can recover from being down ten points to just four,” Matea concluded.
