Two residents of Belgrade were apprehended in a police operation aimed at curtailing the activities of criminal organizations and preventing serious crimes.
The Police Directorate reported that Mihailo Jovanović (28) and Milovan Ćuk (36) were taken into custody.
Jovanović was arrested in Budva and has been transferred to the Pretrial Detention Center, while Ćuk, apprehended in Tivat, is being expelled from Montenegro.
The authorities discovered multiple apartments associated with these individuals.
Within the same operation, police arrested LV (21), a resident of Cetinje connected to Jovanović, while executing a search in one of the apartments in Budva, seizing cash, a camera, and a vehicle.
“Officers conducted a check on an individual displaying an ID card under the name JJ (29) from Belgrade, a Serbian citizen. When the document was inspected, doubts about its authenticity arose, leading to the individual’s transfer to the Budva Security Department for identity verification. Subsequent electronic checks revealed the document to be forged, and the individual was identified as MJ (28) from Belgrade,” said the police.
Jovanović is suspected of illegally entering Montenegro — outside registered border crossings — in early March.
“Further operational investigations revealed that MJ, using a fake ID, signed a lease for an apartment in Budva on behalf of another individual, allegedly at the request of someone from Belgrade, for personal gain. MJ has a history of violent crimes and drug-related offenses, and it is believed that the police’s proactive response thwarted further criminal activities in this case. He has been detained upon the order of the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Kotor on charges of document forgery and was subsequently transferred to the Directorate for the Execution of Criminal Sanctions.”
The police indicated that Ćuk, who failed to register his stay in Montenegro, was located in Tivat and noted as a repeat offender.
“A search of his rented apartment was conducted, resulting in the cancellation of his residence permit by the inspector for foreigners and allowing him 12 hours to vacate Montenegro, which he complied with,” the report stated.
In ongoing efforts, another rented apartment in Budva linked to LV (21) from Cetinje—deemed of significant interest to the authorities—was also discovered, with ties to Jovanović.
“During the search of LV’s apartment, authorities seized €11,400 in cash, several SIM cards, and video surveillance equipment, along with a vehicle for further examination. The Police Directorate, in partnership with the State Prosecutor’s Office, continues to carry out police and investigative activities to clarify the circumstances regarding the activities and presence of these individuals in the municipalities of Budva and Tivat, aimed at enhancing security and neutralizing criminal group activities,” the statement concluded.
