The Spanish football league, La Liga, has confirmed that Barcelona still lacks the financial resources to register players Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, just as it was unable to do in December.
The registration issues regarding Olmo and Victor have sparked a dispute between Barcelona and the league concerning financial fair play regulations.
In January, Barcelona announced it had sold the management rights of VIP seating at Camp Nou to Qatari and Emirati firms for approximately 100 million euros over 20 years. The club claimed this sale allowed it to meet financial fair play standards.
However, La Liga stated that “no revenue from the VIP box agreement was actually recorded on the income statement, contrary to what the club and its auditor confirmed at the time of the sale.”
La Liga’s statement continued, “Barcelona did not possess the financial fair play capacity to register Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor on December 31, 2024, or January 3, 2025, nor do they currently.”
La Liga has informed relevant authorities about an auditor who reviewed Barcelona’s financial transactions between December 31, 2024, and January 3 in an effort to secure the funds needed for registering Dani Olmo and Pau Víctor, who had been temporarily registered at the season’s outset due to an injury sustained by Andreas Christensen.
Olmo and Victor, whose temporary licenses expired at the end of 2024, can now resume normal play following a provisional decision made by the Spanish Higher Sports Council on January 8, with a final decision expected by April 7.
