Atletico Madrid’s season is spiraling into a nightmare—having been knocked out of the Champions League by Real Madrid, the “Colchoneros” also faced elimination from the Copa del Rey tonight.
Barcelona made their way to Madrid and secured a 1-0 victory in the second leg of the Copa semi-final (the first leg ended in a 4-4 draw), advancing to the final where they will meet Real Madrid. This will mark the first El Clasico in the Spanish Cup final since 2014, when Real emerged victorious with a 2-1 scoreline.
Earlier this month, Barça triumphed over the “colchoneros” with a 4-2 win in La Liga at the same venue, and tonight, a single goal was all they needed for victory. The lone scorer was Ferran Torres, who is enjoying a standout season.
Torres netted his goal in the 27th minute, thanks to a brilliant assist from Jamal.
Atletico left the pitch without recording a single shot on target, while Rafinha missed several chances to add to Barça’s scoreline.
With this defeat, the Madrid side’s only focus remains La Liga, where they sit nine points behind their rivals tonight, whereas the “blaugrana” continue to perform well and are in the running for every available trophy.
