“Tiho Emerges as One of the NBA’s Most Consistent Players: Insights from Mazula, Jokić, Teammates, and American Media Reactions on Vučević”

Philadelphia welcomed him as the 16th pick in the 2011 NBA draft, allowing him to step into the league quietly. Over 14 seasons, he carved out his reputation just as silently, becoming an invaluable asset to his team.

Nikola Vucevic and his Chicago Bulls missed the play-in game after a loss to Miami last night. The day before, “Atletik” shared a compelling story about the Montenegrin center.

The headline aptly captures the essence of what the 34-year-old from Bar has achieved over the years.

“Tiho has quietly emerged as one of the NBA’s most reliable players,” notes The Athletic, the sports section of The New York Times.

Vučević recorded a season-long double-double this year, marking the 11th of his career, with averages of 18.5 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.

“While many anticipated a trade for Vučević, he remained and became a crucial figure in one of this season’s most delightful surprises,” adds “Atletik.”

Everything starts with him.

This media outlet also features comments from key influencers in NBA history, including Vučević’s teammates…

“He’s essential to much of what Chicago does, particularly due to his skill in spreading the floor and scoring,” stated Joe Mazula, coach of the champion Boston Celtics.

He elaborated further…

“When he plays at a high level, it alters how you have to defend against them. They play quicker and shoot more. I think all their players improve when he’s on the court, and it all begins with Vučević.”

The current best player in the NBA, Nikola Jokic, also weighed in on the Montenegrin.

“His consistency stems from his work ethic. He likely got that from his family, as his father was a basketball player too. Consistency requires focus during the offseason — it’s what motivates you,” said the three-time MVP and close friend of Vučević.

He specifically praised players from Europe.

“As European athletes, we take pride in our consistency. He’s an incredibly intelligent player, adept at knowing when and how to take shots. He’s been doing this for 14 years, which is genuinely impressive,” Jokic remarked.

And what do Vučević’s Chicago teammates think…

“You never have to worry about whether he’ll be ready for the game,” said Kobe White, while Lonzo Ball added.

“He’s perpetually calm — well, he only gets annoyed when he switches to his native language. Other than that, he’s a great teammate. He never complains and just shows up to work. It’s a pleasure having him on the team.”

Some fans critique his defense, but Coach Billy Donovan believes the average viewer may not fully appreciate Vučević’s basketball IQ.

“I would emphasize his knack for making smart decisions on the court and sacrificing a good shot for the betterment of the team. He comes in daily and puts in the effort. He’s deeply committed to preparation. You can rely on him; he consistently delivers,” Donovan stated.

An American news outlet reminds us that since the 2021/22 season, Vučević, Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Domantas Sabonis are the only players to average at least 300 points, 18 rebounds, and three assists in ten or more games.

“This highlights not just his consistency but also his durability — he has played in 330 of a possible 357 games since joining the Bulls.”

Grateful for my journey: Better than I imagined

Vučević ranks seventh in the NBA this season for double-doubles, with 45 to his name, and he has also boosted his field goal percentage (53%) and three-point shooting percentage (40.2% on 4.4 attempts per game).

“Consistency is the most challenging aspect in this league — there are so many games with ups and downs. You win, you lose; you play well, then poorly. You have to learn to cope and move forward. My goal is to give my best each night and remain true to myself. I’ve had great seasons and some not as good, but the difference in my performance has never been drastic. I take pride in that. I always strive for my best,” Vučević asserted.

“Atletik” highlights that despite his steady stats, he has never been the center of attention.

“I’m grateful for the career I’ve had — it’s exceeded what I imagined as a child dreaming of the NBA. Even when I entered the league, I never aspired to be an All-Star or a top center. But I’m not one to settle easily. I always want more. Even with a solid career, I believe I still have plenty to contribute,” Vučević noted.

When his peers call him a “double-double machine,” he responds with a smile.

“It’s nice to hear that because it signifies respect for what you do. It shows they acknowledge your skill, which is always appreciated. I know they joke at times, but I value that too,” Vučević concluded.

The break is near, and soon Montenegro will rejoice as Vučević dons the red jersey for our national team at the upcoming EuroBasket.
