Knežević to Request the EC’s Stance on Compliance of UAE Agreement with European Laws and Integration.

President and MP of the Democratic People’s Party (DNP), Milan Knežević, plans to reach out to European Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, to request an official stance on whether the agreement signed by the Government with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) aligns with European legislation and integration standards.

The DNP has announced that the party leader will also engage with the European Union Ambassador to Montenegro, Johan Sattler, to facilitate mediation and clarify any uncertainties that may arise related to other pressing issues.

“During a joint session of the DNP’s Presidency and parliamentary group, unwavering support was expressed for President Milan Knežević, Deputy Prime Minister Milun Zogović, and Minister of Transport Maja Vukićević in their efforts to eliminate doubts and potential threats to state interests regarding the signed UAE agreement,” the party stated.

They emphasized that the DNP Presidency and parliamentary group are in favor of any investment that contributes to expedited economic growth, enhances citizens’ living standards, creates jobs, and establishes the foundation for crucial infrastructure projects beneficial to the state.

“Given all the above considerations, including remarks from high-ranking EU officials on the necessity of ensuring that the agreement signed in Dubai complies with European laws and regulations, the DNP Presidency deems it necessary to pursue further discussions with the European Commission. Accordingly, President Milan Knežević has been authorized to send a letter to Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, shortly, to request her official viewpoint on whether the agreement with the UAE aligns with European regulations and integration practices. Additionally, the DNP President is authorized to engage the EU Ambassador to Montenegro, Johan Sattler, so that he can use his established authority to mediate and alleviate any doubts that may impede a general consensus on other issues,” the statement reads.

The DNP reiterates its full commitment to Montenegro’s advancement on the European path.

“The Presidency and the DNP parliamentary group, in collaboration with our European allies, aim to dispel any uncertainties regarding the investments announced under the UAE agreement, thereby contributing our support toward a broad consensus and economic prosperity in Montenegro,” the party concluded.
