The detention measures for the ex-mayors of Kočani, Ratko Dimitrievski and Nikolčo Ilijev, have been substituted with house arrest. Additionally, the former head of the State Market Inspectorate of North Macedonia is also under house arrest.

This ruling was issued by the Basic Court in Kočani in response to appeals lodged by 17 individuals implicated in the fire at the "Puls" disco in Kočani.

The appeals from the other 14 defendants were denied, and their detention has been upheld.

The Prosecutor's Office has indicated that an appeal has been submitted to the Court of Appeal in Štip regarding the decision affecting the two mayors, seeking to reinstate the earlier detention measures.

Currently, Ljupčo Papazov, the sitting mayor of Kočani who stepped down following the tragedy, continues to remain in custody.

The fire that erupted on March 16 in the "Puls" discotheque in Kočani resulted in 59 fatalities, with approximately 200 individuals receiving medical treatment in hospitals both domestically and abroad.
