Despite securing two wins against lower-ranked teams, Montenegro’s football squad did not ascend in the FIFA rankings, remaining in the 73rd position from last year.

Among Montenegro’s opponents in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Croatia has made the most notable progress, climbing two spots to now sit just outside the Top 10 at 11th place.

The Czech Republic has also improved its standing, rising to 39th from 42nd in the previous ranking. In contrast, both the Faroe Islands and Gibraltar are ranked lower than Montenegro; the Faroe Islands fell four places following matches against our national team and the Czech Republic, settling at 141st, while Gibraltar holds steady at 196th.

Montenegro’s highest ranking occurred in 2011 during the Euro 2012 qualifiers, when it reached 16th place. The average position of the “falcons” since their inaugural match is 76th, with the team experiencing a notable rise of 49 places at one point and a decline of 27 at another.

In the Top 10, there has been a significant shift at the top, as European champions Spain have overtaken world runners-up France, placing second overall.

Argentina retains its position as the top-ranked nation, followed by Spain, France, England, Brazil, and the Netherlands.
