With only one match left in the season for Montenegrin volleyball players abroad, the outcome will determine the third-place winner in the Portuguese women’s volleyball championship. The leagues in Croatia and Slovenia concluded last week, with our athletes narrowly missing out. Meanwhile, Danijela Džaković was honored as the best forward in the Azerbaijani league.
The Mladost volleyball squad fell short in their quest for the Croatian Super League championship against the Murska team, delivering thrilling performances in the last two matches. In the first final match, Mladost triumphed at home in a five-set showdown, buoyed by Đorđe Jovović’s 20-point contribution. Nikola Đurović, another Montenegrin national player, added five points, but despite their efforts, Mladost lost 3:2 at Murska’s venue, ending a successful four-season run. In the subsequent match, Jovović scored an impressive 30 points while Đurović contributed four.
Also, our representative middle blocker Matija Ćinćur and Alpacem Kanal could not secure the trophy, facing a solid Slovenian team, ACH Volej, and losing the series 3:0. In the final playoff match in Ljubljana, the score was 3:1, and Ćinćur scored four points during this decisive game. Alpacem Kanal made it to the playoffs final for the first time in 15 years, marking a notable achievement in their season, with the young Bjelopolje player shining brightly.
The season concluded for Qatar Sports, coached by Darko Prebiracevic. They had a commendable season, although they lost their final Amir Cup match to competition favorites Al Rayyan, with a score of 3:2.
Danijela Džaković’s season culminated with her being named the best scorer in the Azerbaijani league. She, along with her team Mili Avijasije, secured third place.
The Zagreb Mladost team will not be adding the Women’s Volleyball Super League trophy to their collection this year, as Simona Petranović and her teammates lost the crown to city rivals Dinamo. The final series concluded 3:1, with Dinamo gaining momentum in a five-set match followed by a decisive 3:0 victory at home. Our national team player participated in the series’ third match, scoring a single point, leading to Mladost’s dethronement after seven successful years.
Portugal will see new champions this season. Unfortunately, Saška Đurović’s Sporting was eliminated by Braga in the semifinals after five hard-fought matches. In the battle for third place, Sporting turned the tables on former champions Porto, winning 3:1 in the second match. Our middle blocker excelled, scoring 16 points and leading her team to a remarkable victory in the Portuguese capital, set for May 1st.
