The community of Zabjelka has demonstrated its passion for handball and the local club over the past three seasons in the Second League, where the atmosphere during matches was always electric. Now, this renowned district in Podgorica is poised to enjoy the thrill of the First League.
Zabjelo is set to return to the senior competition, officially entering the Montenegrin elite next season after competing in the Pioneer League following the conclusion of the Second League.
As excitement builds for this pivotal period, an electoral assembly session was conducted where new leadership was chosen to steer the club over the next four years.
Marko Brnović has been appointed president, with Maja Vukčević, Branko Nilević, and Ivan Banović joining the Board of Directors.
“Recently, Zabjelo has achieved impressive results, and I am optimistic about a bright future filled with successes for our young athletes,” Brnović stated.
He highlighted that the club has produced 16 national team members in younger categories, including Luka Poje who has also represented Montenegro’s senior team.
“Our aim is for more of our players to don the national team jersey soon, and we are committed to providing them with the best opportunities to achieve that,” Brnović added.
Ivan Banović, the club’s coach and founder, stressed that Zabjelo prioritizes the youth and players. He stated that they are dedicated to keeping them engaged and off the streets.
“We strive to support everyone and create pathways for growth. Moving forward, we aim to do the same for our senior team, with plans to register a team for the First League of Montenegro next season,” Banović explained.
The return of Zabjelo to the SBbet First League will spark city derbies, bringing thrilling matchups between the “Republicans” and Budućnost.
