Choose a Side: Stand with the Law or Embrace Crime
Deputy Prime Minister Aleksa Bečić and Minister of Defence Dragan Krapović participated today in showcasing the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Montenegro, taking place at Independence Square in Podgorica, as part of the Ministry of Defence’s initiative “The Armed Forces in Your City.”
Deputy Prime Minister Bečić highlighted the notable advancements in the economic and social conditions of Armed Forces personnel, pointing out the concrete salary increases that were implemented at the start of the year for contract soldiers, non-commissioned officers, officers, and civilian staff.
However, financial compensation alone is insufficient if the uniform masks disloyalty to the system. Let me be clear: the internal affairs and defense sectors need a complete purge of individuals who have supported clans, interest groups, corruption, organized crime, and smuggling instead of serving the state. Those who protected mafia interests rather than citizens, and wore the uniform while acting against the law, are not acceptable, Bečić stated.
He further emphasized that a safe and stable Montenegro cannot be established as long as individuals who allied with organized crime remain within its institutions.
Anyone who tolerates, conceals, or minimizes such behavior must recognize that they do not, and will not, have my support. In this mission, there is no neutrality. You are either aligned with the law and the state, or you are aligned with crime. Those who choose silence have taken the wrong side, Bečić concluded.
Defence Minister Dragan Krapović reminded the audience that the Armed Forces of Montenegro are a crucial foundation of the nation.
The Armed Forces symbolize not just security, but also ensure peace, stability, and the dignity of every citizen, he stated.
He noted that citizens had the chance to directly observe some of the equipment utilized by the Armed Forces and engage with service members to learn about the development, modernization, and future readiness of the defense system.
It is essential to recognize that the Armed Forces are not defined merely by equipment and technology. Their essence lies in the people—the dedicated men and women who serve and fulfill their responsibilities every day. Therefore, we also presented career opportunities within the Armed Forces today. Those ready to dedicate their strength, knowledge, and loyalty to serving the nation and its people will find a place among us. The Armed Forces seek the best among us—individuals of honor, discipline, expertise, and courage. Those individuals will earn their rightful positions, Minister Krapović concluded.
As part of the event, a flyover was conducted by helicopters from the Montenegrin Air Force.
