“Remembering Balijigić: The Rifleman Who Gained Fame in Obard through Possession, Feast, and Drink”
Recent reports indicate that Alija Balija Balijic is suspected of killing Milenko and Jovan Madjgalja on October 25. He was last seen in the village of Obard, located in the Pljevljska Territory.
Local residents have reported seeing him near a house and later claimed he fled into the woods. Surveillance cameras are said to have captured Balijagić in the vicinity.
However, locals recall that Balijagić had been in the village of Obardo nearly twenty years ago when he also evaded the police.
Stories persist in our village about an incident where he entered a house during a celebration. The police were searching for him in connection with a robbery, and he was known to move through that border area. Back then, there were no news outlets or social media, so people had little knowledge of who he was. He knocked on a door, asked to leave his rifle, and entered. He then joined the celebration, eating and drinking with the guests, according to Rin, one of the locals.
The village of Obarda is not far from Pljevlja, and residents note that he did not go into the village center but stayed around the outskirts.
As of November 2, both Montenegrin and Serbian police have been deployed in the areas around Prijepolje and Brodarevo in search of Balijagić.
Officials from the Corneral Police have stated that Alija Balijagić escaped from prison in 1993 and was not apprehended until seven years later.
Dissatisfied with the actions of the relevant authorities, residents of Sokolac, where Balijagić killed two people, announced plans to blockade the main road from Bijelo Polje to Podgorica starting November 18.
