The open data portal now features 500 datasets, nearly double the 280 published in the fourth quarter of last year, according to the Ministry of Public Administration (MPA).
The Government of Montenegro’s open data portal (https://data.gov.me//) is making significant strides in enhancing transparency and accessibility of public sector information.
“As of November 2020, the portal showcased only 138 datasets from 20 institutions; the current figures indicate nearly a fourfold increase in available data, along with a nearly doubled number of active institutions,” stated the department.
Currently, 38 institutions are actively contributing data, with plans to further increase this number through educational and promotional efforts.
“This progress reflects the MPA’s and the Government’s ongoing commitment to bolster the openness, transparency, and efficiency of public administration, focusing on strategic goals outlined in key documents aimed at enhancing public accountability,” the announcement reads.
According to the Ministry, open data holds tremendous potential for application not just within government operations, but also across the economy, academic sectors, and non-governmental organizations, laying the groundwork for digital service development, public policy analysis, and innovative solutions.
The MPA emphasized that open data is essential for creating smart services, digital tools, and innovations that can enhance the daily lives of citizens and businesses, thereby assisting Montenegro’s journey towards a modern, digitally transformed administration.
The MPA urged all non-participating institutions to start publishing data in compliance with the Law on Free Access to Information, and invited citizens, entrepreneurs, and organizations to make use of the available datasets and contribute to their further enhancement through specific projects and analyses.
“The advancement of the open data portal marks a crucial step towards reinforcing transparency, accountability, and alignment with European standards in digital governance and institutional openness,” concluded the statement.
