A Transparent Police Force is Essential for a Just Society
The recent arrest of a police officer on charges of human trafficking highlights two critical points:
Firstly, it underscores the ongoing effort to thoroughly reform the security sector, reinforcing that no individual is beyond accountability, irrespective of rank, position, or years of service.
Secondly, it reflects the establishment of a system that no longer overlooks those suspected of undermining their duty, actively pursuing justice against them.
I want to specifically commend the officers of the Police Directorate and the relevant authorities for proving that the law applies to everyone.
It is undoubtedly challenging to arrest fellow colleagues, yet it is essential for the police to uphold their integrity.
A transparent police force is an indispensable requirement for a trustworthy state.
We are confronted with numerous challenges, both political and media-related, but I want to deliver a strong message:
Our resolve is unwavering.
We will not relent until every uniform is free from criminal influence.
I urge the Minister of the Interior and the Director of the Police Directorate to promptly continue suspending all police officers who are reasonably suspected of connections to criminal activities.
This action is not for the sake of statistics, nor will it be driven by external pressures. It is for the benefit of honest law enforcement officers and the people of Montenegro.
Montenegro has made a decisive choice: it will never again become a country where the badge is worn by those who have betrayed the very laws they pledged to uphold.
