Is it finally time to end the Adriatic’s nine-year reign in the Montenegrin water polo championship?
It has never felt more possible; even Primorac hasn’t been this close to toppling their biggest rival in ages. Kotor leads the final series 2:0, and tonight at 19:00 in Škver, they have their first match point for the title, with a maximum of three matches allowed…
Vjekoslav Pasković’s team seized home pool advantage from Novljani in the opening game of the finals with a 9:6 victory, followed by a 15:13 win at home, bringing them closer to their third Montenegrin championship title, last achieved in 2007 and 2008.
In the second match, although Jadran fell behind by three goals, they rallied and even led a minute and a half before the end. However, goalkeeper Aleksandro Kralj ensured a draw for Primorje with a goal just 10 seconds before the final whistle. He later saved two penalties, becoming his team’s hero.
– We are full of confidence and want to clinch the title in the third game without any calculations – stated Nikola Marković, one of the experienced players on the Kotor team.
– Winning at Škver is never easy; we’ve managed it once, and our dramatic victory in Kotor was crucial. It’s great to be 2:0 up, giving us a chance to cap off an excellent season with a trophy after securing 17 wins out of 18 matches in the A1 regional league – added Marković.
Jadran has no time to waste; they must outperform a formidable opponent if they wish to extend the series.
– We are not giving up, even though we know a tough challenge awaits us. Primorac is a strong team that plays at an excellent pace and skillfully exploits one-on-one matchups. We have improved our gameplay from previous matches, and now we need a win to stay in the title race – emphasized Petar Radanović, the current champion’s coach.
