“The Italians Still Owe Us: Time to Settle the Debts”

In order to spend another January alongside the world’s best teams, Montenegrin handball players must overcome a challenging six-point deficit from their match against Italy, scheduled for 17:30 in “Morača”.

Miloš Vujović highlighted the team’s determination, revealing that he sustained an injury during the first playoff match for the World Cup that will require surgery, but it will have to wait until after the rematch with the Italians.

“After an MRI, the doctor informed me of a shoulder injury that needs surgery. However, I’m focused on the upcoming match in front of our fans and will play as if nothing has happened. We must secure a seven-point victory; the Italians have a debt to repay,” Vujović stated.

Coach Vlado Šola expressed confidence that his players will be fully motivated against their opponents, although the match in Konversan told a different story…

“We are to blame for our mistakes; we often underestimate weaker teams, thinking we can easily win. Now, we have a crucial match where winning is non-negotiable,” Vujović emphasized.

The Gumerzbah player recalled past lessons from previous rounds leading to the World Cup.

“Similar to our previous encounter with Greece, where our approach cost us, resulting in a three-point loss. However, we demonstrated our capabilities with a plus-10 victory in the second leg in Podgorica and I hope to replicate that success again,” said Vujović.

Nonetheless, the six-point deficit from Konversano poses a greater challenge than the one faced in Athens.

“Indeed, we’re behind by six points, and the pressure is mounting. This requires a much more serious approach to the match,” he added.

The “lions” wing acknowledged the challenge of reversing such a large deficit.

“It’s indeed a tough and demanding task, but it’s also a challenge to win against Italy by seven points at home. We embrace that goal, aware of our favorites status, and we’re eager to prove ourselves. We all wish to win and maintain our streak of competing in major tournaments,” concluded Vujović.

Admission to tonight’s match will be free, providing additional motivation, especially since one of the team’s symbols, Nemanja Grbović, will be playing his final game in red.

The “Morača” has hosted many giants before—can it now support the lions in achieving a critical comeback against outsiders, leading them to yet another major competition, marking the tenth since the restoration of independence?
