Primorac Ends His Fast and Earns Title After 16 Years

The thrilling Adriatic series has come to a close, marking a celebratory moment in Kotor as Primorac claims the title of Montenegro’s champion. This season has showcased the excitement of club water polo in the country.

In the decisive match of the finals, Kotor overcame their rivals from Bokele for the second time, securing a victory after a nail-biting finish (16:14, with a regular score of 11:11). This victory represents their first championship trophy in 16 years.

Guided by Vjekoslav Pasković, who had previously played in the first two championships (2007 and 2008), Primorac was more prepared for this final than Jadran, who were determined to dethrone Novlja. Despite lacking home-pool advantage, Primorac achieved victory twice within ten days at Škver.

This match, like Wednesday’s encounter in Kotor, featured quarters that unfolded like individual narratives. Despite Jadran having a two-goal lead, they struggled to maintain control and could not bring the series back to the ancient city.

The last time the home team led by two goals was just 35 seconds before the third quarter ended, following a goal by Danilo Radović to make it 10:8. However, a response from the guests ensued with a 3:0 run, capped by a goal from Marko Mršić five and a half minutes before the game concluded.

Later, Jovan Vujović added a five-pointer, and only a single shot made the difference—Jadran’s left-handed Russian Ivan Nagaev struck the post during the first series, while Primorac, akin to the second match, exhibited flawless shooting from five meters.

Marković, Mršić, Srđan Janović, Petar Ćetković, and Đorđije Stanojević all delivered powerful performances, closing out the season with a victory for Kotor while leaving Jadran to grieve for the first time in nine years without the cup that usually resides in their display cases.

Marko Mršić emerged as the most effective player for the winning team, scoring four goals, while both Marković and Stanojević contributed three each.

Dmitrij Holod was Jadran’s top scorer with four goals.
