“Debunking Claims: Podgoričani Fell Down the Stairs in Novi Sad, Not Attacked by Police”

A 42-year-old man from Podgorica passed away at the Montenegro Clinical Center after being admitted due to injuries. According to initial reports from various Montenegrin media outlets, he alleged that he had been assaulted by the police. However, the Montenegrin Ministry of the Interior quickly responded to these claims.

The claims regarding the individual being “beaten” by the police are inaccurate. Specifically, police officers from the Podgorica Security Department were alerted by the staff at the Clinical Center of Montenegro. Upon arrival, they learned that the man had previously reported that his injuries were the result of a fall down the stairs in Novi Sad, Serbia – this was confirmed to Rin by the police.

Additionally, they stated that the individual did not wish to pursue any action against the Police Directorate of Montenegro, nor did he report the incident to the legal authorities in Serbia.

He was under medical care, but remained at the Clinical Center due to poor health conditions. Shortly thereafter, officials from the Podgorica Security Department were informed of his passing at the Clinical Center – according to police reports.

The Higher State Prosecutor’s Office indicated that an autopsy was performed, confirming that there were no signs of violent death, attributing the cause to underlying health issues.
