“Djukanovic’s Central Role in Addressing Institutional and Political Crisis Decisions”

Milo Djukanovic

Recently, Montenegro has faced significant pressure from Brussels and Washington to abandon the establishment of a new government, which they allege is under the control of the President, warning that this could jeopardize the EU accession process.

Miodrag Lekić, the candidate for the Mandator of the parliamentary majority, argues that the main obstacle is the decision-making of Milo Djukanovic regarding the current situation.

– Rather than serving the general interest in the system, which should represent all citizens, he is taking steps to hinder institutions. His strategy appears to focus on creating a more favorable ground for his party. However, I believe he has miscalculated, and his party may face adverse consequences for this approach – stated Lekić.

Lekić asserts that the necessary direction is to unblock institutions and work toward selecting judges for the Constitutional Court, ensuring that the parliamentary majority can exercise the initiative to propose government formation, as is standard in all democratic societies.

He emphasizes that any potential new government intends to adhere to international obligations and assures that all such commitments will be honored.

Regarding the possibility of enlisting international mediators to help resolve Montenegro’s political and institutional crisis, Lekić identifies several individuals and representatives whose involvement could be beneficial.

– Some proposals come with vague wording, which can be perceived as threatening. I find that completely unacceptable. Montenegro is a sovereign country and should be governed by its leadership elected by the people. This nation ought to engage in cooperation while simultaneously rejecting any colonial status, waiting for others to dictate our actions – Lekić made it clear.
