“Reviving Albania: Opposition Leader Plans Comeback with Trump-Inspired Strategy”
Sali Berisha, who previously served as the President of Albania, managed to regain power in 2005 and continued as Prime Minister for another eight years. However, he left the nation in financial turmoil following his presidency in 1997. This year, he is making another bid for power.
Leading the main opposition Democratic Party, Berisha is set to challenge three-time Prime Minister Edi Rama in the upcoming elections this May. Now at the age of 81, he has faced four challenging years.
In 2021, he was sanctioned by US President Joe Biden’s administration and subsequently expelled from the party he founded.
Despite this setback, Berisha managed to turn the situation around against his ineffective successor, Lulzim Basha, who currently leads one of the three factions within the Democratic Party.
Undeterred by the corruption charges pending against him, Berisha is resolute that he will be Albania’s next prime minister.
Taking inspiration from former US President Donald Trump, he promises tax reductions, critiques “woke culture,” and energizes his supporters with conspiracy theories.
