The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MESI) in Montenegro has been awarded the inaugural European Commission (EC) award for the integration of Roma in the Western Balkans and Turkey for this year, as announced by the ministry.

According to the government office, the EC revealed the winners of this year’s European Union awards focused on Roma integration in the Western Balkans and Turkey during an event in Brussels.

“MPNI is honored to be the first recipient of this award, recognizing exceptional efforts in fostering Roma inclusion through educational initiatives,” the statement indicated.

The award ceremony took place during the annual EU Roma Week (April 8-11), which is held under the auspices of the European Parliament.

At the ceremony, Svetlana Drobnjak, the Director General of the Directorate for Preschool and Primary Education, expressed her gratitude to the organizers for acknowledging the Ministry’s accomplishments and emphasized the Ministry’s achievements to date, mentioning that even greater advancements lie ahead.

“We are committed to working diligently to fulfill our Ministry’s mission of providing equal and outstanding education for all children,” Drobnjak asserted.

The Ministry of National Education and Research noted that the award ceremony was also attended by Petar Marković, the Head of the Mission of Montenegro to the EU.
