The President of Republika Srpska (RS), Milorad Dodik, made a statement today on the social platform Iks, indicating that Bakir Izetbegović, the leader of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA), is openly requesting Interpol to intervene in the internal affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).
“Bakir Izetbegović is no longer concealing his intentions – he is publicly requesting Interpol to take action in the internal matters of Bosnia and Herzegovina due to the political stance I represent,” Dodik wrote on Iks, noting that Izetbegović acknowledges this as “political persecution.”
Dodik’s response came after Izetbegović appeared on the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Television (FTV) and suggested that Interpol should honor the request from the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to issue an international arrest warrant for the President of RS.
“That man (Dodik) consistently opposes the rule of law. This time he has been convicted. I expect that Interpol will agree to the international arrest warrant. Dodik’s options for maneuvering are diminishing and will continue to be restricted in the future,” said Izetbegović.
Currently, it is unclear from where Dodik posted on Iks or his present location.
He was in Israel yesterday attending the Conference on Combating Anti-Semitism in Jerusalem, but local reports indicate Israeli officials recommended he leave the event.
A journalist from the Jerusalem Post, after interviewing Dodik, noted in the introduction that the RS president felt “unwelcome” and like an “intruder” at the conference.
Media in Sarajevo reported that the RS government plane flew from Israel to Belgrade and then to Banja Luka last night, but there has been no official confirmation regarding Dodik’s return to BiH.
Yesterday, the Court of BiH requested that Interpol issue a red warrant for Dodik and the Speaker of the RS Parliament, Nenad Stevandić, on suspicions of committing the criminal offense of “attacking the constitutional order of BiH.”
The decision was made after both individuals left BiH, evading the legally mandated border control processes.
