“Budva Set to Receive €237 Million Bypass Project”
The development of a bypass around Budva, forming part of a proposed expressway along the Montenegrin coastline, will be incorporated into this year’s budget via a technical rebalancing following the recent reshuffle in the Cabinet. A public tender for the nine-kilometre stretch—from Markovići to Lastva Grbaljska—is anticipated to be announced by the end of the year.
This segment marks the initial phase of a contemporary coastal route that will include eight bridges with a combined length of 1.74 kilometres and two tunnels totaling 3.98 kilometres. The project stems from a conceptual design created by Monteput as part of Montenegro’s Spatial Plan.
The investment is estimated at €237 million, inclusive of VAT, with land expropriation expenses projected to be an additional €20 million. Funding will originate from the capital budget, with Monteput tasked with the project’s execution.
The bypass will link the main roads of Podgorica–Budva and Budva–Tivat, effectively redirecting transit traffic away from Budva’s city center. This initiative is expected to alleviate congestion, reduce travel times, decrease pollution levels, enhance road safety, and enrich the overall experience for visitors.
Through this strategic infrastructure project, Montenegro is taking a significant step towards improving transport connectivity and promoting the sustainable growth of its tourism sector and economy.
