“Unified Data Center: The Cornerstone of Digital Transformation”
Today, the Electric Power Company of Montenegro (EPCG), along with the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System (CEDIS) and the Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System (CGES), formalized their collaboration through the signing of a Letter of Intent, marking the start of their strategic partnership for the construction of the Consolidated Data Center (KDC).
According to Elektroprivreda, this initiative signifies a pivotal move towards the digital transformation of Montenegro’s electricity sector and the establishment of a contemporary information hub:
“Through this alliance, EPCG, CEDIS, and CGES are pooling their resources and expertise to develop a technologically sophisticated system for data management and digital services.”
The consolidated data center is set to be established within the industrial complex of the Nikšić Steel Mill, in areas already allocated for this purpose.
“Besides its fundamental role in modernizing power companies, we’re also exploring the potential for commercial utilization of KDC’s capabilities to meet the requirements of other institutions and businesses,” they elaborated.
EPCG Executive Director Ivan Bulatović remarked that this project “demonstrates our shared vision and commitment” to elevate Montenegro as a technologically innovative nation.
“The Consolidated Data Center transcends being merely an infrastructure project – it lays the groundwork for a digital transformation that will facilitate more accurate data analysis, enhance decision-making efficiency, and secure our electricity system. We aim for EPCG, together with CEDIS and CGES, to build a system that is well-equipped to face future challenges. Digitalization is an essential step toward sector modernization, and KDC is a vital part of that journey,” stated Bulatović.
CEDIS Executive Director Vladimir Ivanović highlighted the significance of collaboration among key energy stakeholders in Montenegro and their support for other economic sectors.
“Developing the energy system goes beyond just investing in the network and infrastructure; it also involves smart solutions that provide enhanced flexibility and operational safety. The Consolidated Data Center will improve coordination among companies, lower operational expenses, and upgrade IT infrastructure. This investment holds substantial long-term value for both the energy sector and the Montenegrin economy,” Ivanović explained.
CGES Executive Director Ivan Asanović pointed out the project’s critical role in ensuring the stability of the electricity transmission network.
“This initiative not only digitizes operational processes but also constructs a framework for more efficient management of electricity resources across the entire nation. The Consolidated Data Center marks a significant advancement in sector modernization, fostering better connectivity among all key players in the electricity ecosystem. I am confident that, with adequate backing and strategic engagement from all parties, this project will deliver tangible benefits and further bolster the security and reliability of Montenegro’s electricity network,” Asanović remarked.
The participating companies have already commenced the initial phase of preparing a feasibility study that will outline the technical and economic aspects of the project. Following its conclusions, they indicated that a specialized agreement will be formulated to detail the subsequent steps for the KDC implementation.
