The Water Polo and Swimming Federation of Montenegro (VPSCG) has provided an update regarding the doping test of Aleksa Ukropina, stating it is prohibited to disclose details about the case to the public.

According to their announcement, this restriction is in line with the protocols of the International Anti-Doping Agency, which mandates strict confidentiality until the resolution of the case is concluded.

Ukropina, a left-handed water polo player, underwent testing on January 21, just prior to his departure to Trebinje for training ahead of the World Championship in Doha, failing the test due to an inhalation drug.

VPSCG has confirmed that Ukropina violated anti-doping regulations during a sampling period that took place after the European Championship but before preparations for the tournament in Qatar.

“All members of the national water polo team are well aware that they have qualified and professional personnel available to consult at any time about the medications they can consume. The medical team has also provided guidance and education on these topics,” VPSCG stated.

The seriousness with which VPSCG approaches these matters is highlighted by the fact that the National Anti-Doping Commission presented this topic at a water polo coaches’ seminar in December.

“Our current priority is to assist Aleksa in finding a legal team that can guide us through the evidentiary process. In accordance with this, VPSCG will refrain from making further statements on this issue until the procedure concludes,” VPSCG concluded.
