The water polo season, which commenced with two significant national team tournaments, now shifts its focus to club competitions in Montenegro starting this Wednesday.
This marks the kickoff of the new Montenegrin championship season, featuring the familiar four teams: Jadran, Primorac, Budva, and Kataro.
According to the Water Polo and Swimming Association, following the outcomes of the Regional Leagues (Premier and A1), the matches will be conducted using a home-and-away format.
“Jadran, the sole participant in the Premier League, begins the Montenegrin championship with four points, while Primorac, being the highest-ranked Montenegrin team in the A1 league, starts with three points. Kataro holds two points, and Budva starts with one point,” announced VPSCG.
The opening round on Wednesday will feature the Kotor derby between Primorac and Kataro at 18:00, followed by the match between Jadran and Budva one hour later at Škver.
The second round is planned for March 2nd, including the matchups Primorac – Budva and Kataro – Jadran. The third round, taking place on April 2nd or 3rd, will showcase the highly anticipated derby between Jadran and Primorac.
After six rounds of league play in the Montenegrin championship, a playoff will determine the final rankings—where the top two teams from the league will compete for the championship title. The playoff final will be held in a best-of-three format.
Since 2014, Jadran has been the reigning champion, taking the title from Budva—marking their twelfth title overall in Montenegro, while Primorac and Budva each hold two championship titles.
