Red Star Secures Victory in Piraeus
Red Star has faced some surprising defeats recently, including losses to Žalgiris and Olimpia Milano at home in Belgrade. However, an even bigger shock was their triumphant win against the Euroleague leaders.
Red Star triumphed over Piraeus, defeating Olympiacos with a score of 81:73, and they are back in contention for a playoff spot in this elite competition.
The team established a 17-point advantage in the first half, but Olympiacos narrowed the gap to just three points in the third quarter (58:55). Nevertheless, the guests responded fiercely, making four three-pointers in as many possessions at the start of the final quarter—contributions from Jago dos Santos, Nemanja Nedović, and two from Ajzea Kenan. Olympiacos could not bounce back from that impactful moment…
Rokas Gedraitis was the standout performer for Red Star, scoring 20 points (seven three-pointers, six of which were in the first half), while Cody Miller-McIntyre added 15 points along with 11 rebounds. On the other side, Sasha Vezenkov led the Greek team with 19 points and nine steals.
Giannis Sferopoulos’ squad was missing injured players Joel Bolomboy and Luka Mitrović, along with Filip Petrushev, who was ineligible to play as he is on loan from Olympiacos.
Despite this loss, the Piraeus giant remains two wins ahead of second-placed Fenerbahçe, who fell to Monaco in the Principality with a score of 91:82.
Mike James was a force on the court, scoring 29 points, while Eric McCullum made his mark with 24 points on the other side.
