It wasn’t as straightforward as one might have anticipated, and there are several concerns ahead of the pivotal matches. However, the primary focus for now is that the Montenegrin handball team commenced their Olympic qualification with a win.
The “Lionesses” secured a victory over Paraguay (30:25) in Ulm, although it seems their thoughts are already aligned with the upcoming matches against Germany and Slovenia, which will determine the teams advancing to Paris.
“It’s challenging to play games we’ve prepared for less, especially when their significance is paramount, and then the outcome is like this. The girls are looking ahead to Saturday, which isn’t ideal—teams like Norway might handle that, but we’re not there yet,” remarked coach Bojana Popović following the game.
From the commentary of the esteemed handball player, one could infer a hint of underestimation towards their opponents, who were the only underdogs in Ulm.
“The Paraguayans are competitive and tenacious, and the very name of the rival tends to affect us Balkans in terms of maintaining the proper mindset, especially compared to when we face stronger teams,” added Bojana.
The match against Germany is next on Saturday, followed by Slovenia on Sunday—the two top teams will be heading to Paris.
“Everything is alright, which is the most crucial thing, and we will prepare for what lies ahead this weekend—then we will have a clearer picture, as European handball is on display,” concluded Bojana.
