Budućnost Voli narrowly avoided its fourth defeat in the AdmiralBet ABA League, managing to secure a victory against Spartak in Subotica with a score of 86:82, culminating in a 13:0 run at the end of the game.
“I commend the team for their second-half performance. Spartak played exceptionally well; they typically play a modern, fast-paced, and aggressive style that caused us issues. We failed to adhere to our game plan, allowing easy points due to a lack of concentration. We lost our focus, and a solid team like Spartak knows how to capitalize on that,” noted coach Andrej Žakelj.
At one point, Budućnost was trailing by 18 points in the first half.
“We started to find our rhythm a few minutes before halftime and began to perform better—still not perfect, but improved—and fortunately came away with the win. I believe it was deserved as we significantly improved our defense in the second half,” the Slovenian coach added.
“There are numerous areas that require attention, but every game is a competition for the top spot, and what matters most is securing the victory.”
Rashid Sulaiman delivered an impressive performance, scoring 22 points.
“He has been performing beyond our expectations all season, contributing significantly on both ends of the court. He has had a couple of less impactful games, but that’s not of great concern as we operate as a team rather than focusing on individual players. Overall, we lacked motivation against Spartak; aside from Rashid, McKinley Wright and Kenan Kamenjaš also impressed. If you ask me, it seemed like some other players didn’t show up for the match. That was their focus,” Žakelj remarked.
