According to Jelena Borovinić Bojović, the President of the Capital City Assembly, the revitalization plan for Duklja includes the construction of a Visitor Center, congress halls, and enhanced infrastructure at the archaeological site.
She convened a meeting with officials from city and state bodies to signal the commencement of revitalization efforts.
The project is expected to shape a promising future, create new development avenues, and position Podgorica as a must-visit tourist destination.
Borovinić Bojović stated, “Our primary ambition is to initiate the revitalization of the Duklja archaeological site, an invaluable piece of our cultural heritage, leveraging an ambitious project that sadly has suffered over time, with all of us bearing some responsibility.”
She envisions launching this endeavor with the construction of a contemporary, multifunctional Visitor Center, designed to enable residents, visitors, and tourists to explore the rich history of ancient Duklja near the archaeological site.
Within this impressive structure, visitors will enjoy the ambiance of that era through various interactive and innovative experiences. We are also planning to incorporate the largest congress hall with more than 250 seats, an outdoor cinema, educational spaces for various age groups, dedicated areas for aspiring scientists and archaeologists, as well as a library and reading room that provides an inspiring view, alongside diverse economic opportunities for our local economy,” the Assembly President elaborated.
The project also includes the upgrade of road infrastructure linking Duklja with Podgorica, and extending the promenade from the Millennium Bridge to the site.
“Our vision transcends mere infrastructure development – we aim to cultivate a venue where ideas, innovations, and collaborations can thrive, a place where individuals can coexist harmoniously with nature, feel connected to their community, and pursue professional and personal growth. As one of the most significant thinkers of the 20th century stated: ‘Cities are the heart of every nation,’ and we aspire for this heart to resonate strongly with the needs of all residents,” added Borovinić Bojović.
