Montenegrin boxer Tomislav Đinović was unable to reach the semifinals at the Great Silk Way international tournament held in Baku.
He faced defeat against local competitor Tagi Nasibov in the quarterfinals of the 60 kg category, losing by a split decision.
Prior to that, Đinović advanced past Chingiz Musinov from Kazakhstan in the round of 16.
Coach Momčilo Zlatičanin stated that the experience gained at the tournament in Baku was significant for his young boxer.
“Even though Đinović was eliminated in the quarterfinals, he made a strong impression and demonstrated that he belongs at this level. The nuances determined the outcome against the Azerbaijani fighter. Each round was a fierce battle, and the experience we acquired here is invaluable,” noted Zlatičanin.
He highlighted that these two tough matches would greatly benefit Đinović, particularly as it was his first tournament following a break.
“It’s evident that he hasn’t yet reached his peak form. We’ve achieved our goal at this stage – to make a positive impression and gather valuable experience,” added Zlatičanin.
The bronze medalist from the previous European Championship was the sole representative from Montenegro at this competition, which featured over 200 fighters from countries including Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Russia, Kazakhstan, and the host nation, Azerbaijan.
