12 years ago, Dragan Adžić achieved a remarkable milestone by winning a silver medal with the Montenegrin women’s handball team at the London Olympic Games.
Now, 12 years later, Adžić has coached the Slovenian women’s handball team to their first-ever Olympic Games qualification. Slovenia triumphed over Montenegro today with a score of 30:26, leaving the “lionesses” without a spot at the Games.
“I want to acknowledge the exceptional work that Bojana Popović and Maja Savić have done for both Budućnost and the Montenegrin national team. They truly deserve respect. The team demonstrated tremendous effort and skill today. They have the potential and reason to aim for Los Angeles,” Adžić remarked after the match in an interview with RTCG.
Adžić has been at the helm of the Slovenian team for three years and has led them to this significant accomplishment.
“My vision was that we could qualify, that we had the capability. It’s proven that these girls have what it takes, and I am proud of their development. The support from the Federation and Crimea has been crucial in this achievement,” Adžić stated.
He also expressed confidence in the future of Montenegrin handball.
“The current composition of the Montenegrin team is such that they are giving their all. I respect those players; they’ve demonstrated their full potential. If there were a few more handball players, it could have been even tougher. Montenegro has a promising future with the existing work and conditions. I am not worried about Montenegro’s future. With this generation, Slovenia has a great chance at the Olympic Games. We will do everything possible to foster the development of young players in Slovenia,” Adžić concluded.
