Šarović Released After Detention for Reportage in Pioneer Park
Nemanja Šarović, a journalist for KTV from Serbia and a politician, was released following his statement at the police station on 29 November Street in Belgrade.
As reported to N1, he was detained due to a TV report he was filming in Pionirski Park, where he allegedly offended and harassed police officers according to a complaint.
Šarović asserts that his only intention was to inquire with the police about the presence of numerous unregistered tractors in Pionirski Park, to which none of the officers in uniform responded.
“I encountered individuals claiming to be Red Berets, who turned out not to be, and I sought to verify whether the officers in police uniforms were legitimate as they were not acting in accordance with the law,” Šarović explained to N1.
According to KTV’s Facebook page, Šarović was arrested around 15:00 while attending in support of Srđan Žunić, the founder of the “United People of Serbia” movement.
A video capturing the incident has circulated on social media.
Previously, on March 8, he was also detained in Pionirski Park while reporting from a camp occupied by individuals posing as “students seeking education.”
This arrest was also broadcast live on KTV. At one point during the broadcast, a participant in the rally poured coffee on him, followed by a woman who hit his arms, causing the microphone to fall from his grasp.
Footage reveals that the police officer instructed him to leave Pioneer Park “to prevent a significant disturbance of peace and order.” When he refused, the officers forcibly removed him and placed him in a police vehicle.
