VPK Buducnost: Welcoming a New Addition to the Family
The Budućnost family, which is under municipal ownership, has successfully eliminated all barriers for individuals to join the extensive team of the Budućnost water polo and swimming club.
During yesterday’s session of the city council, all councilor clubs in Podgorica unanimously supported the decision for VPK Budućnost to be municipally owned.
Despite being established only in 2018, VPK Buducnost is already announcing significant outcomes and great potential.
“Podgorica is acquiring the club at no cost, as the claim that the Sports Facilities of Podgorica were the original founders is unfounded and legally flawed. There will be no issue concerning the allocation of funds to sports organizations, as €100,000 was allocated in the budget for VPK Budućnost, which is double the amount from last year. Additionally, €20,000 was allocated later due to budget adjustments. The club has immense talent and the capacity for water polo’s growth. We have a large base, and we will approach the Government with the initiative to build new swimming pools,” stated Deputy Mayor Luka Rakcevic, who further added:
“As a municipal club, VPK Budućnost will also provide free training sessions according to the schedule set by the Secretariat for Sports. Unfortunately, we face numerous challenges related to the financing of sports for the Main Guard, primarily due to the existing Law on Sports. I encourage efforts to formulate a new law, as there are significant uncertainties and varying practices. It is crucial for the Ministry to either revise or draft a new law,” appealed the Deputy Mayor.
Acting Secretary of the Secretariat for Sport, who advocated for the acquisition of VPK Budućnost, Miloš Antic, asserted:
“We believe that water polo deserves greater support. I am confident that transferring it under the Capital City’s management will facilitate increased support. One of our goals is to establish a senior water polo team that, I hope, will start operating in September. Even though it is young, the club, particularly the generation born in 2009, is already competitive with teams like Jadran and Primorje. We have a record budget for sports organizations, and a new feature is enhanced support for clubs that aren’t municipally owned yet still produce exceptional champions and achieve outstanding results. They need and deserve more support,” concluded Antic.
The success of VPK Budućnost was confirmed within an hour when selector Nenad Vukanić, the renowned water polo player and coach from Kotor, called up five Budućnost players from a list of 15 participants born in 2009 for the Montenegrin national team, set to compete in Naples.
