“The choice made by the 43rd Government of Montenegro to bring the ferry back into state ownership has proven to be a historically sound and advantageous decision for all residents of Herceg Novi and Montenegro. The upcoming lawsuit from the private operator Ban against former Prime Minister Dritan Abazović serves as further confirmation that we have rectified the wrongs and restored public assets to their rightful owners – the citizens,” stated the Herceg Novi board of the Civic Movement URA.
The party noted that since the ferry service returned to state management, Montenegro has been earning approximately 10 million euros per year.
“This revenue now flows into state funds rather than private entities. Beyond the financial gains, the fleet has been upgraded and expanded, and we currently possess eight ferries, enhancing connectivity and service quality for everyone,” the Herceg Novi board of GP URA remarked in their announcement.
They also highlighted their commitment to advocating for further professionalization and enhancement of the ferry service.
“We believe it is essential to establish a dedicated joint-stock company for ferry operations situated in Herceg Novi, which will manage its responsibilities with greater transparency and effectiveness than has been previously executed, thus contributing to the economic progress of our city and the nation as a whole. This initiative exemplifies our dedication to serving the interests of the people of Herceg Novi and Montenegro, rather than catering to private investors and tycoons as done by DPS and now PES. We will persist in our efforts to safeguard and reclaim public assets for the citizens,” the statement concluded.
