Senad Murić, a resident of Rožaje and father of Semir Murić, who was killed in the center of Rožaje nearly four years ago, expressed his outrage over the ongoing delays in the trial of Edmir Ramović at the Bijelo Polje Higher Court.
Murić made these statements to “Vijesti” following another postponement of the trial, which had already been delayed multiple times due to the absence of two defendants.
Ramović faces charges of murdering his fellow citizen Semir Murić and injuring police officer Refik Dedeić out of reckless vengeance.
Alongside Elsan Ramović, Salko (51), Ernes, and Ernad Ramović are also facing charges for participating in the altercation, while Sabro Ramović (55) is charged with illegal possession of a firearm.
Similar to last week, the hearing was adjourned again due to the illness of defendants Ernad and Salko Ramović. Previous hearings had been postponed for reasons including changes to the panel and the absence of defendants and their lawyers.
Vidomir Bošković, representing the Murić family, warned earlier that the three years since the indictment was filed could lead to the release of the accused if the trial does not proceed swiftly.
The defendants’ lawyer, Drago Konatar, submitted medical documentation for the absent defendants.
“As the father of the late Semir, with profound sadness and anguish, I ponder how much longer we must wait and how many more of us need to endure suffering before a verdict is reached. It is evident to everyone that a high-profile trial is fraught with risks and is delayed month after month. What is the underlying reason? There is ample evidence, including video footage, clearly showing the brutal attack on us,” he stated, expressing hope that the Higher Court will act in accordance with the law and bring the case to a resolution, preventing the primary accused Ramović from defending himself while at liberty.
The court has ordered the arrest of Salko Ramović for the next hearing set for March 25, while the defense communicated through the defendants that Ernad has pledged to attend the upcoming trial from Germany, where he is currently employed.
The trial is set to resume on March 25.
