Following the success of one prominent handball nation, another is in the spotlight. The Montenegrin goalkeeper Nikola Matović is set to take his position as the new goalkeeper for the French Saran next season, representing a country known for its European and Olympic champions.
He will team up with Nebojš Simić in goal for the “lions” at a club where fellow Montenegrin Luka Radović also plays, arriving from Amo in Sweden.
The fact that the former national team captain wore the club’s jersey indicates that Saran holds Montenegrin handball players in high regard, as demonstrated by Vasko Ševaljević.
Currently, the club from central France is battling to avoid relegation in the French LNH 1 league, sitting just one point above the “red zone.” If they maintain their first division status, Matović will have the chance to compete in one of Europe’s two leading leagues next season.
Prior to his time in Sweden, the Montenegrin goalkeeper has played professionally in North Macedonia and Serbia.
