We are better than in the first part of the season, we play more relaxed

“We’ve Improved Since Early in the Season and Are Playing with More Ease”

SC Derbij’s basketball team triumphed over Split (102:24) last night in Podgorica, claiming their ninth victory in the AdmiralBet ABA League’s 89th round.

The match showcased the impressive three-point shooting of the “students,” who achieved a remarkable 66.7% accuracy by sinking 20 out of 30 attempts beyond the arc.

“I believe we played an excellent game. Our shooting success stemmed from effective ball movement. We recorded 25 assists, a feat we haven’t accomplished this season. We controlled the game throughout. It was as anticipated, especially considering Split’s performance under coach Msrić, which has been significantly faster and more open, resulting in a high-scoring affair. I hope the small audience in the arena and those watching from home enjoyed the game. This performance gives us optimism for our ambitions in the last six rounds,” stated SC Derbij’s coach Petar Mijović post-game.

Igor Drobnjak was among the standout players for the “students,” hitting five three-pointers after returning from injury. Both Bogavac and Nil added four three-pointers each, while Mirković, Grbović, and Vučeljić each contributed two, and Hadžibegović scored one.

“Drobnjak was sidelined post-Cup due to injury. He had an outstanding match at a crucial time, igniting us with his three-pointers. I believe this will boost our confidence. We appear more relaxed now than when we were fighting to secure our position. We’re playing significantly better than in the early season, showing more ease on the court. In the first half, we played with more tension as we sought wins in close games. Igor and the team have been training well, which is evident as new players continually step up,” Mijović explained.

Next, SC Derbi will host Igokea on Sunday (17).

“Igokea is one of the most seasoned teams in the league. They are genuinely competitive, understand how to play to win, and are challenging to prepare against due to their physicality and tactical discipline. We must be ready on various fronts, both individually and as a team, to defeat what is objectively a favored opponent. We will focus on resting and refreshing ourselves, aiming for a couple of solid training sessions to prepare for that match with ambition and play at our best. Our previous encounter in Laktaši was filled with ups and downs, and in the end, it turned into a nail-biter. Facing Igokea won’t be easy, but if we perform at our best, they might find it challenging to beat us too,” Mijović concluded.
