The Montenegrin Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP) is making significant progress on the country’s journey towards European Union (EU) integration, stated Slovenian Minister of Internal Affairs Boštjan Poklukar.

As per the announcement from Montenegro’s Ministry of Interior, Minister Danilo Šaranović held a meeting with Poklukar during a ministerial gathering as part of the Brdo Process.

Poklukar expressed, “The Ministry of Interior in Montenegro is performing admirably, and Slovenia will steadfastly support the reforms you are vigorously pursuing on your EU path.”

He reiterated Slovenia’s unwavering support for Montenegro’s European integration efforts.

“We envision Montenegro on a singular path—the swiftest route to the EU. Strengthening the rule of law and maintaining a secure environment are essential components of that journey,” remarked Poklukar.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized that the meeting represented a continuation of exceptional bilateral cooperation between Montenegro and Slovenia, particularly in security matters.

The statement noted, “Noteworthy is the outstanding operational collaboration between the police forces of both nations, with a specific focus on combating organized crime.”

Šaranović pointed out that enhanced operational cooperation between the police forces of the two countries is crucial, as only through joint efforts can they effectively combat criminal organizations operating in the region.

“Our ability to address security challenges directly influences regional stability, and Montenegro is fully committed to achieving this goal,” stated Šaranović.

The two discussed that the security sector is foundational and requires ongoing development.

Šaranović emphasized, “A robust security system is essential; without it, the nation cannot be strong—economically, socially, or politically.”

He added that security is a dynamic process, necessitating the continuous development of institutions equipped with the strength, knowledge, and integrity to tackle all challenges.

Šaranović confirmed that reform initiatives are actively underway, with the Ministry of Interior spearheading Montenegro’s commitments in the realm of the rule of law.

It was concluded that the partnership between Montenegro and Slovenia would continue to evolve through tangible operational initiatives, enhancing regional security and Montenegro’s European outlook, according to the statement.
