The residents of Zabjelka demonstrated their passion for handball and their club three seasons ago in the Second League, where the atmosphere at their games was always electric. Now, the well-known Podgorica district is set to enjoy the excitement of the First League as well.
Zabjelo is making its return to top-tier competition and will compete in the Montenegrin elite league starting next season, having played in the Pioneer League subsequent to the Second League’s closure.
As the club looks forward to an exciting new chapter, an electoral session of the club’s assembly recently took place, leading to the election of new leadership to steer Zabjelo for the next four years.
Marko Brnović has been elected as president, with Maja Vukčević, Branko Nilević, and Ivan Banović joining the Board of Directors.
“During the previous period, Zabjelo achieved remarkable results, and I am optimistic about a bright future filled with successes for the children of our club,” stated Brnović.
He also mentioned that the club has nurtured 16 national team members in younger categories, and that Luka Poje has played for the senior Montenegro team.
“Our objective is to see more of our players don the national team jersey in the near future, and we will do everything possible to provide them with the best conditions to achieve that,” Brnović added.
The coach and founder of the club, Ivan Banović, emphasized that the primary focus for Zabjelo is the children and players, ensuring they do not remain idle and without engagement.
“We have made efforts to accommodate everyone and create opportunities for personal development. Moving forward, we will continue this approach with senior players, as our plan is to reestablish a senior team in the First League of Montenegro by next season,” said Banović.
With Zabjelo’s return to the SBbet First League, Podgorica will witness an exciting city derby featuring matches between the “Republicans” and Budućnost.
