NBA Commissioner Adam Silver is set to update NBA club executives during today’s Board of Owners meeting regarding the league’s efforts to further integrate with the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and enhance its presence in European basketball.
This meeting will serve as a platform for club owners to participate in discussions and receive direct insights about the ongoing negotiations from Silver.
For a while, the NBA and FIBA have been deliberating on the possibility of introducing a new annual competition in Europe or establishing a league managed by the NBA. This was a significant topic at the September Board of Owners meeting, which featured the participation of FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis.
Following the meeting, Silver is anticipated to hold a press conference, where he will discuss the European plans, including its current progress and future steps.
NBA executives utilized the opportunity of the NBA games in Paris last January to engage with European stakeholders and discuss the future trajectory of basketball in the region.
During that time, Silver affirmed that the NBA “remains on track” to establish a notable presence in Europe, indicating that NBA owners would receive further updates on this matter in a meeting scheduled for March.
