Prior to the draw, it was confirmed that the Montenegrin basketball team would not head to Katowice for this summer’s EuroBasket. Instead, they were placed in Tampere, alongside hosts Finland, reigning world champions Germany, Lithuania, Sweden, and Great Britain.
Montenegro faced Germany during the qualifiers, while Lithuania is undoubtedly a favorite alongside the world champions. Finland, the host nation, poses a formidable challenge, but they are a team that can be faced successfully. Victories against Sweden (also a qualifier rival) and Great Britain could potentially see our national team advance to the next round.
Our players will take to the court at the Nokia Arena, which holds 13,455 spectators and is particularly renowned for hosting ice hockey matches.
Boško Radović’s squad awaited the draw in Riga from the third pot, which also included Poland, Italy, and the Czech Republic. Given that Poland is one of the hosts, it was immediately clear that our national team would not be grouped with them.
In addition to Katowice and Tampere, EuroBasket will also be hosted in Riga and Limassol.
Montenegro will strive to secure one of the top four spots in the group to move on to the round of 27, commencing on August 27.
The finals of EuroBasket will take place in the capital of Latvia, Arena Riga.
This will mark Montenegro’s fifth participation in the European Championship, and their third consecutive appearance.
