Lake Skadar Poaching Incident: Two Arrested, Other Suspects Still at Large
Authorities apprehended two individuals on suspicion of engaging in illegal fishing using electric currents on Lake Skadar, while efforts are underway to locate two additional suspects.
The National Parks of Montenegro (NPCG) reported that the Skadar Lake National Park Protection Service discovered four individuals illegally fishing with an electric probe in the Šarova Topola area in Zeta yesterday.
“With the assistance of the Police Directorate, two suspects were transported to the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office, where charges were filed against them for illegal fishing and for assaulting a public official. The other two suspects fled in an unknown direction, and law enforcement is currently pursuing them,” the statement indicated.
Authorities temporarily confiscated two boats, an outboard motor, two electrical converters, two electrical probes, three batteries, and a lamp.
The National Parks remind the public that the prohibition on fishing in Skadar Lake National Park has been in effect since March 15 and will continue until May 15. They urge all citizens and visitors to act responsibly, adhere to the law, and report any illegal activities by calling 067/000-825, which is available 24/7.
