The Opening Scene of the Finale
This season, Jadran clinched the Cup and participated in two European competitions—the Champions League and Eurocup. Meanwhile, Primorac, after being eliminated from international play, achieved its primary objective by returning to the regional Premier League. However, all of this is now secondary as they prepare for the crucial showdown in the domestic championship.
The battle for the Montenegrin champion’s cup is heating up between Novljani and Kotorani. The reigning champions are the water polo players from Škver, but the locals in Kotor are optimistic that they are ready to reclaim the title, a feat they have not accomplished since 2008.
The opening match of the final takes place today at 5 PM in Herceg Novi, with subsequent matches scheduled for May 7 in Kotor and again on May 11 in Škver. To win the championship, a team must secure three victories, with possible fourth and fifth matches to be played on May 15 and 18, respectively.
“Our primary goal is to defend the title and maintain our winning streak,” stated Jadran’s leader, Vasilije Radović, who further elaborated:
“We consider ourselves the favorites, but Primorac has proven that they are raising their game. The Kotor team is performing well, as are we, and in the previous encounter, they outmaneuvered us with their counterattacks. This time, we must turn the tables; we cannot afford to concede easy goals. We need to minimize defensive errors. Over the last two to three weeks, we’ve been training rigorously in preparation for this final, and we will see who comes better prepared,” Radović emphasized.
Primorac is looking for a breakthrough that could bring them closer to the cup, setting the stage for one of the most exciting final series in recent seasons.
“We gained significant confidence from that last game. Prior to that, we performed well in the derby in Herceg Novi, despite the loss. I can see that the team is focused and fully committed, and we will all do our utmost to win the title,” asserted Marko Mršić from Primorac.
The details will be crucial in deciding the final series…
“The atmosphere is fantastic, and we are feeling confident. There are excellent centers, and I believe we can match their swimming skills. It’s their greatest strength, and we must be able to respond. If we can limit Novlja to positional attacks, we stand a great chance. This series is lengthy, and anything can happen, but we are ready to compete for the title, and I believe it is our time to win,” concluded Mršić.
