“Future in the North: Lake to the Rescue for Record Achievements”

The Buducnost team, a leading force and strong contender, has the opportunity to match the Montenegrin football record for consecutive wins just before the championship break for national team duties.

Ivan Brnović’s squad made their way to Berane following their tenth consecutive victory—a feat previously accomplished by Buducnost in the seasons of 2011/12 and 2020/21.

However, the Jezera team awaits them, battling to maintain their first-league status after securing a win against Dečić away last week.

This record is also a significant source of motivation for Buducnost, as the championship title is nearly secured—with 12 matches to go, the “blues” hold a 14-point lead over second-placed Petrovac.

“It won’t be an easy match; we are up against a team that’s in good form, with two recent victories, and they’re fighting to survive. We won’t underestimate them. We need to maintain the unity we’ve demonstrated all season and ensure we are all at 100 percent. This is the only way to achieve our goal—inevitably, victory,” stated Buducnost’s left-back and national team player Ognjen Gašević.

The possibility of equaling or even surpassing the record weighs on my mind…

“We haven’t focused on it until now; we’ve taken each game as it comes, which I believe is the reason for our success. With the record now within reach, why not go for it? Yet, we will stick to our game-by-game approach and see what unfolds,” Gašević added.

He showcased his excellent form with a goal and two assists in the last round against Otranto (5:1), making him a strong candidate for a call-up from the Montenegrin national team coach, Robert Prosinečki.

– “I’m thrilled with scoring and providing two assists, but the real joy comes from how the team plays and winning, especially when we rally back from a deficit and display character,” noted Gašević.

Earlier in the season, Buducnost had no trouble overcoming Jezera in Berane (0:2), but the team from Plav managed to seize a point in Podgorica with a draw (1:1).

The March round preceding the international break features a clash between second and third place, with Bokelj facing Petrovac in Kotor.

There’s a significant 13-point gap between the two teams favoring Petrovac, who hold the key to European qualification (Kotor has a match in hand). The home side aims to break a poor streak, having suffered three consecutive defeats.

Sutjeska will be in Podgorica at the OFK Titograd Camp, looking to claim third place against Otranto as they visit (1 p.m.). The Nikšić team faced disappointment on Wednesday, conceding a late goal to Mornar and ending up with a 1:1 draw.

– “We regret the points lost in the final moments, but we won’t let that deter us. We aim to enter the international break on a high note with a win against Otranto,” said one of Sutjeska’s coaches, Ivan Đuričković.

Krstović, Damjanović, and Desančić will miss due to injury, according to coach Milija Savović.

– “I expect a challenging match; Otranto is in a tough position in the standings, yet they have several excellent players. We aim to maintain our momentum,” stated Vukčević.

Nikšić will take on a motivated Ulcinj, who are at the bottom of the table and fighting to stay afloat, despite facing a poor pitch condition.

– “From the information we’ve received, the field won’t be in ideal shape, but that shouldn’t serve as an excuse,” Vukčević added.

Meanwhile, at the FSCG Training Camp, just a few hundred meters from where Otranto and Sutjeska will play, Mornar will face Arsenal two hours later (3 p.m.), with the teams in sixth and seventh position separated by just one point.

In Bijelo Polje, Jedinstvo will host Dečić, aiming to escape the relegation zone after their recent loss to Jezera away last week. Tuzan, on the other hand, is struggling with two consecutive defeats against the bottom two teams, Otranto and Jezera, with just one win in their last five matches this spring.
